Whether we call it socialism or progressivism history is moving the United States towards policies which are both necessary and beneficial. Market economies absolutely require strong and robust governments which ensure transparency, establish firm rules of the game and expose profit-seeking fraudulent corporate activity. The call for more "individual responsibility" rings hollow when 48 million Americans lack health insurance. Craig, as always, was insightful. My sense is that, as someone brighter than me said recently, its the debt that's being socialized. So far it looks like my reward for keeping my mortgage as small as possible most of my adult life, is to have the patriotic honor of paying off everyone else's with my tax dollars. But then again, I can see the moon from my backyard, so maybe I should run for astronaut. Brilliant assessment, Craig — especially the part about nationalizing the banks.
