Seven candidates — two Democrats and five Republicans — make up the field of gubernatorial candidates in the August 3 primary.
You’re aware of the names: Bernero and Dillon on the D side, Bouchard, Cox, George, Hoekstra and Snyder on the R ballot. You’re also aware of their “titles”: Lansing mayor, speaker of the House, Oakland County sheriff, state attorney general, state senator, U.S. representative, business executive.
So you know who they are and what they do. But how much do you really know about them? Enough to understand what they’ve done, what makes them tick and how they might govern? Enough to cast an informed vote?
The following seven in-depth profiles of the candidates, written by Susan J. Demas over the course of the past year, will help you answer those primary questions. Click on the candidate’s name to link to the profile.
(For good measure, there are also links to two other candidates who fell by the wayside earler, Democrat Alma Wheeler Smith and Republican-turned-Independent Joe Schwarz.)

The Executive and the Legislative Branches are equally responsible for the sorry state of the Michigan economy. So why would anyone vote for any one of them?
That leaves Bernaro, Bouchard and Cox: all three of these guys are profiled as Rambos who put male testerosone ahead of intelligense.
So as a lifetime Democratic voter, I’m going to hold my nose and vote for Rick Snyder
